Last week I decided to open a twitter account because, well, that’s the thing to do. With the whole Bill Nye/Ken Ham debate still fresh in my mind, I tweeted a question my daughter once posed about evolution. I thought it was innocent enough…wrong!
Saturday and Sunday I was attacked all.day.long by athiests and evolutionists. And not just personal attacks against me, but against homeschooling, the bible, God, and my children! The slants against my children were particularly vicious-
-”Her children probably don’t even know how to spell IQ.”
There goes that idea.
-”Your children are going to be scientifically illiterate.”
Hmmm…
-”Did a goat just back over one of them?”
I’m assuming this is referring to the ”all homeschoolers live on farms” stereotype. Funny thing is, I live in the city!
-”You are raising your kids on hell and fear.”
They look terrified, don’t they? Actually, Dillon did get sick a few minutes after this was taken.
-”You’re sheltering your children from the real world.”
Boy, that’s original. Actually, it’s hard to shelter them considering we live in the city and are the only Christians in the entire family.
I spent quite a bit of time trying to wrap my brain around why they care so much about a person with nine twitter followers. I must have had to block about fifteen people, and I’ve never blocked anyone before! (referring to when I still had a Facebook account)
I felt like I was in one of my kids’ games! You know the ones- where every time you beat a bad guy, five more show up? They were acting like a pack of wild, injured animals. Wait…that’s when I realized something- they’re acting this way because instinctively they know their time is almost up. Instinctively, they know that they’re wrong, and someday they will have to face the Almighty God, and they’re terrified. Like I said, a pack of injured animals.
Someday, we will all meet Him, and I’ll be honored to say that I was persecuted in His holy and precious name. What about you?

There's No Place Like Home 
This is, unfortunately, typical behavior for a lot of evolutionists/atheists. When the “evidence” for their points of view isn’t quite enough, they seem to seek safety and affirmation in numbers. Then when the answers still aren’t sufficient, the original topic is discarded & the personal attack begins. For a group of people who have life’s mysteries all figured out, it’s absurd that some are incapable of seeing how ridiculous their behavior is, including the cowardice of hiding behind fake screen names in order to feel confident enough to attack those with differing views.
As homeschooling families & Christians, we will always be stereotyped by some in mainstream society. That’s okay. We know that there is, indeed, a Higher Power Whose opinion of us really matters.
You have a beautiful family. Thank you for sharing.

Some people just have nothing better to do with their time! I’m sorry you were the target of their nastiness. I’ve gotten a few nasty comments on some of my blog posts too. At first I was so hurt, but then I was like, So what!!

Made me a bit upset even reading this…children, really??! But you know we are touching a tender nerve when you see behaviour like this. I mean, it’s not even rational, respectful..just downright rude!! After the creation/evolution debate I had ‘friends’ attacking other ‘friends’ on facebook vehemently because of their faith. I didn’t even get into it that eve… more out of fatigue than anything else.
However, I do remember those days when I was searching… & shamefully I made fun of other children who were different than me (I was a tween back then). Insecurity perhaps? Thinking of you & don’t give up! You are not alone 🙂

“umm… wow. Funny how, as you said, such hateful, vehement Tweeters can seek out a new, unknowed Tweeter in no time flat. And again. Wow. Those comments they left were HARSH. L CRUEL. L UNCALLED FOR. L that is EXTREMELY SAD and SO points to how badly they need that same Savior they all try so hard to rationally reject by holding so tight to their evolutionary beliefs!

I know. I was shocked because if I see something I don’t agree with, I just shake my head and move on. The same people who accuse us of intolerance are the ones who are the intolerant ones.

It is so so sad that people think it is ok to attack your family to make themselves feel better. They don’t want to believe that God is real so instead of dealing with any good points that make them think it could be possible they attack the person/people/group to make themselves feel better. So sorry you had to deal with that! Thank you for sharing at Anything Goes! I will feature this post this week!

I am sorry this happened to you. It was wrong, beyond wrong and to even mention your children, there is no word for it. The blessing is they showed their ignorance, so it’s easy to discredit their opinions. I’m gonna tell you a truth about me, because I want you to know how your blog shows up to the world.
I am not homeschooling my children for religious reasons. I have every intention of including religion in their education when they have shown an interest, but it will be an all inclusive education. Not just one. I intend to take them to any religious building they would like to visit and teach them any spiritual texts they wish to examine. I will teach them Creationism (Young and Old Earth), Evolution (Scientific and Theistic), Intelligent Design and any other theories of how we came to be on this Earth. Because whatever theory we choose to follow will be based on faith, since none of them can be proven.
I should also note I believe the teachings of Christ are infallible. They have and will stand up to even the most Godless Atheist. Who’s going to argue against compassion and love? And I intend to teach my children that above all else.
Having said that, I am terrified of Christian Homeschoolers. I know by choosing to keep my children at home to educate we will be on the fringe of society. By choosing not to Christian Homeschool we will be on the fringe of the fringe. In all my searching through homeschool blogs, as soon as I see a bible quote I move on. The reason… I find a great many of these blogs are full of judgement and obvious hypocrisy. I have seen Bible quotes next to how to apply fake eyelashes. Seriously, fake eyelashes.
I tell you this because I have been hopping on and off your blog all evening. You appear true, kindhearted and earnest. Your blog reads like a helpmate, not a pulpit. You offer your experiences and beliefs as you see them without a hint of judgement. In my opinion your blog is a rarity. Whether you intend it or not, your blog is a ministry. You managed to keep a reader who never and I mean never reads a blog that mentions religion. So, thank you.

Thank you so much! I actually did not start homeschooling for religious reasons, either. I live in the city and the schools are terrible. Plus, with such a large family, getting them off to school everyday and dealing with the aftermath was way too hectic. Sounds funny coming from someone with 10 kids still living at home 24 hours a day, doesn’t it?
