The end of the school year is quickly approaching, and it is during this time that many parents may begin to seriously ponder the idea of homeschooling. Let’s face it. Our schools are in trouble, and if the past tells us anything, it’s a pretty sure thing that no amount of reform is going to change anything in the long run.
Having said that, the benefits of homeschooling are so much more far-reaching than academics that I’ve decided to write a series of posts on many of the advantages of educating your kids at home. While I could easily cover this topic in one very basic article, I don’t think I could adequately do justice to the myriad of blessings that come along with this very important decision of keeping your children at home.
I will be covering topics such as:
- Safety
- Personalized Learning
- Values
- Freedom of choice
- Political Correctness Run Amok
- Centrality of the Family
- Focusing on True Education Instead of Mass Instruction
- Learning from Life

- Following Your Own Schedule

My hope is that this series will enable parents who are on the fence about homeschooling to see the big picture and realize that this commitment is not simply about academics but so much more. I invite you to follow along on this journey of why we should consider homeschooling.

There's No Place Like Home 
Great idea for a series. I look forward to each post. I would add CONFIDENCE. That could probably fit in with safety because home is a safe and accepting environment where our kids don’t have to worry about peer pressure to be someone they’re not. They can be more confident as themselves and focus on their learning without the distraction of trying to fit in.

You’re exactly right. I was going to include something of that nature in with the socialization post, but it certainly could fit in with safety, as well. Now you’ve given me something to think about!

I look forward to following along with this series! I’m hesitant to take on homeschooling since I have no idea what I’m doing, but at the same time my daughter is really struggling with the teach-to-the-test mentality of the classroom. Can’t wait to read more!

I know exactly how you feel, but let me assure you that if you do make the decision, there is no one right way to homeschool. The important thing is to tailor your daughter’s education to meet her needs, and this may not resemble a typical school day at all. In the future I will be writing another series on homeschool methods and how to practically use them. I hope I can help!

More and more people are heading towards homeschooling. The homeschool community is diversifying. The curriculum available is diversifying.
Despite the amount of work, people are seeing the positives of teaching their children at home. I think this is a much-needed series. Yes, there are negatives, just as their are negatives for everything – but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives (at least that’s the way i see it).

I see it the same way as you. I think as more people do it, it will become less “strange” to other people, and they will begin to see the benefits when compared with the alternative.
