Are you interested in homeschooling but don’t know where to start? Are you concerned with questions about socialization? Are you just plain confused about the whole thing?
Believe me, I was right there with you all those years ago when we set out upon our learning adventure. I was nervous, frazzled, and just a little self-conscious about the whole thing.
As we enter into our eighth year of homeschooling now, I’ve learned so many things about this lifestyle- yes, it is a lifestyle- and it is my deepest desire to share these insights with anyone willing to listen. You see, what I know now about homeschooling didn’t come easily. It took years of trial and error, hard work, and, sometimes, heartache.
While I don’t claim to be an expert in it (is there even such a thing?), I’ve arrived at a place where I am confident and completely at peace with our decision to homeschool.
That’s why I’m so excited to have been given the opportunity to write an article at Our Parenting Spot on, you guessed it, how to homeschool. I would love for you to come visit me there, and who knows? Maybe you’ll like it so much you’ll want to join the parenting community, too!
Hope to see you there!
So glad I cam across your blog! I’m exactly who you described with no idea of what to expect as we head into homeschooling in the next year or so. Can’t wait to read more of your insights 🙂

My kids are still very young (an infant and a toddler), but we plan to homeschool them. I’m going to head over and see what you have to say. Thanks!

What a great and comprehensive article! We’re very much interested in homeschooling our children. In fact, it’s kind of a ‘requirement’ for our family based on our beliefs and desires surrounding education and learning and how they’re not mutually exclusive ideas. Either way, I’m really enjoy reading about how others homeschool and what they’ve found useful, plus resources as I continue to pick up knowledge. Monkey Boy is now 3 and I can already tell, without doing much of anything, how much further he’s advanced above some relatives/peers. 🙂

I am a firm believer in natural learning. I think the reality of that was common knowledge until compulsory schooling came into effect. After that, everyone ‘forgot’ and began to isolate learning into a school-only mindset.

Yes, I completely agree. I even have a dear dear friend who was an early childhood educator who is all about play and natural learning. She helps me feel confident when I constantly hear otherwise! 🙂

How fun that you were given the opportunity to write this post! Your point about borrowing books from others reminded me that even teachers in public schools are often willing to loan out some of their materials – oftentimes, when a school adopts a new textbook series, they just toss out the old one, which most likely isn’t even more than a year or two old! (Some) schools are happy to share these materials with others – it doesn’t hurt to ask! Thanks for linking up with us again over at #FridayFrivolity!

That’s true, and I know that our school district does supply textbooks to homeschoolers if they request them (as long as they have enough.)
