One of the leading things I want to instill in my children is the importance of scripture memorization. Psalm 119:11 states:
“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
I’ve recently had the pleasure to come across the Hidden in My Heart Scripture Memory Bible. Available in the NLT, NIV, and KJV versions of the Bible, it is an incredible resource to introduce and reinforce scripture in a variety of ways. Besides being a complete rendition of God’s word, it includes thematic memory verse plans, a download code for a website which includes songs for 100 of the memory verses, a user’s guide, challenge verses,a song index, and additional material to dig deeper into the 100 core verses.
Scripture memory has never been something that my kids have considered to be fun. We tried Awana for several years, and despite the games and fun with their friends, they dreaded going every week. Lately I’ve just been incorporating memory verses in with our homeschool lesson plans. Before receiving this Bible, I simply used verses that were relevant to our daily activities and used them as copywork and offered an incentive of candy if they could recite them in full to me.
Hidden in My Heart has been an excellent addition to this routine. I have been using it in our morning time Bible time, and we have really enjoyed delving deeper into the core verses. I also use these passages for additional copywork because I really believe that copywork is a marvelous method for retaining information.
One thing my kids weren’t too excited about were the music selections, which I felt were really cute- but that may have been the problem. My children are a bit picky when it comes to music and have grown accustomed to the more contemporary worship music- complete with guitars, keyboards, and drums- that we hear at our church. It is my opinion, however, that the music is as delightful as the rest of this Bible.
I highly recommend this to any parent who is looking for new ways to explore God’s world with their children. You won’t be sorry. 🙂
Disclaimer- I received a free copy of this Bible from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are entirely my own.
Thanks for the info, I’m going to look into this. My daughter is working on memorizing lots of scripture right now so maybe this can help 🙂

It sounds like a good resource for helping kids learn the Bible. I don’t know it they are still around, but Steve Green has a couple of albums called “Hide ‘Em in Your Heart” which are scripture songs taken from both the NKJV and the NIV. My family really enjoyed them. I’m your neighbor at #SittingAmongFriends! 🙂

I’m wondering if that was what my old church used for scripture memory songs. I’ll have to find out. Thanks for visiting!

And thank you for hosting the linkups and for posting such informative posts. As I always say, I’m more of a writer than a blogger, so I really need help in that area!

Ooh, ooh, ooh!!! I have two slight addictions – one to children’s Bibles (I currently have over 30) and another to Scripture songs. This sounds right up my alley, you enabler, you! 🙂 Thanks for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday on Mommynificent.com!

Thanks! We use memory verses in our Sunday school and the kids get a hole punch in a card if they recite the Scripture correctly. I’ll look into this though as an “in-home” reinforcement. Pls follow my blog: JPROBINSON.ORG.
