As someone who is admittedly obsessed with the topics of homeschooling and education, in general, I have read dozens of books on the subjects. As fabulous as these resources are, many of them seem to simply repeat what I’ve read in other similar books.
Dr. William Overton has brought a fresh perspective to home education with The Stewardship of Home Schooling: Teaching, Inspiring, Motivating, and More. He takes great care to emphasize the fact that no matter how your kids are being educated- in school, out of school, or both- education is an essential component in the stewardship of parenting.
Although this publication is about homeschooling, to be sure, it approaches the topic in a completely different way than I’ve ever seen before, as it focuses mainly on families who use a “blended approach” in their education.
A blended approach simply means homeschooling while also incorporating traditional education in some way, shape, or form. Some families go through seasons of public schooling and seasons of homeschooling, while others homeschool part time and send their children to school for certain subjects.
However their children learn, though, these parents are all phenomenal examples of how innovation is key when it comes to taking responsibility for their children’s futures.
Before reading this book, I had never really heard much about the blended approach, other than some older John Holt books that mentioned it. I never realized how many people still utilize the schools as a supplement to their kids’ learning. In fact, I never realized that schools still allowed it!
This book would be a great resource for parents who want to be involved in their child’s education but are unsure of what options are available. I am constantly amazed at the ingenuity of parents who would literally do anything for their children and go to great lengths to meet their kids’ individual needs.
Exciting news! From Februally 11, 2017 through February 25, 2017, you can enter a Rafflecopter giveaway for a free copy of this amazing book! Winners will be notified via email. Good luck!

I don’t know how common it is, but many of the families in this book were able to find a way.

Unfortunately, this book doesn’t describe how to go about doing it. It simply features some families who homeschool this way. I would say to check with your school district. I don’t know how common it is since in eight years of homeschooling, I haven’t heard much about it.
