The ULTIMATE List of Homeschool Unit Study Resources

Because, hey, can you really have too many unit studies?

The Ultimate List of Homeschool Unit Study Resources

In our busy, yet relaxed, homeschool, unit studies are, by far, one of our favorite approaches to learning. To me, a good unit study is the perfect combination of living books, hands-on activities, and notebooking.

There are literally thousands of unit study resources out there, and, I’m telling you, that in itself can be very intimidating to think about.

Today I’ve compiled a list of the best unit study resources I’ve come across so that you can find a slew of fantastic ideas all in one place. Enjoy!

The ULTIMATE List of Unit Study Resources

Unit Study Curriculum:

KONOS

This was written for grades K-8, although it can be tweaked for high school. It’s chock full of hands-on activities and great book suggestions. KONOS is also known as the “Granddaddy of Unit Studies.”

Five in a Row

This resource is based on using living books as the foundation for a thematic approach to learning.

Beautiful Feet Books

Although this is generally thought of as simply a literature-based approach to learning, I consider it a unit study because it can be easily tweaked to include hands-on activities.

CASE OF ADVENTURE- Destination Switzerland

This unit study is one of the most comprehensive curriculums I’ve ever used. This is the perfect resource for hands-on learners.

Time Capsule: Medieval England

This unit study is set up on a day to day basis, so Type-A moms (like me) will appreciate that. This unit includes some of the most unique activities we’ve ever done in our homeschool.

Amanda Bennett Unit Studies

Amanda Bennett has written unit studies on a multitude of topics. Personally, I’ve only ever used one of hers. It was written in outline form, so this is a good choice for those who are looking for a spine but like to come up with activities on their own.

Thematic Units Series

These unit studies are very inexpensive and very easy to use. They are perfect for people new to the unit study method. They’re also extremely affordable. I’ve used several of these, and we enjoyed all of them.

Weaver Curriculum

Although I have never personally used this curriculum, I know many people who have and have heard nothing but good things about it.

Tapestry of Grace

This is yet another resource I’ve yet to use, but it comes highly recommended from many homeschooling friends of mine.

As an iHN blogger, I have had the privilege to work with many talented bloggers and authors of some fabulous unit studies. Here is a list of unit studies you might be interested in:

I'm Shelly, a Christ-following, homeschooling Mom of eleven children ( okay, not ALL children. My oldest is 23.) I met my husband right after graduation, and we've been together ever since. Though my life can be hectic at times... okay, ALL the time, I wouldn't change it for anything.

  1. What a great list. I have just shared it on my blog’s Facebook page. We have used some of the Branch Out World unit studies which are around picture books, often based in the UK, and really enjoyed these.
