Homeschooling advocates, take heed – the number of groups and individuals bent on destroying our homeschooling freedom are on the rise and are more active than ever.
I find it highly ironic that this summit is being planned while ALL students are home. I also find it ironic that just a few years ago, Business Insider published an article about homeschooling bring the new path to Harvard.
We can no longer just sit back and shake our heads in exasperation. We need to DO something. We need to be vocal advocates for our children. I fear if we don’t, Huxley’s Brave New World will become reality much sooner than we thought.
Spread the word. The article I highlight in this video has an email for anyone who has questions about the summit. If you are a parent who has started homeschooling because of abuse in the school, email them. Let your voices be heard.
It’s time to stand up for our God-given rights. It’s time to act.

It is 100% not an accident that this is happening now and expect much, much more in the wake of this crisis. The homeschooling community needs to prepare itself for what’s coming.
Although it seems ironic, their timing is actually spot-on from a political standpoint. Public K-12 education is very fragile at this moment for a litany of reasons, but primarily these: (1) by locking down their economies indefinitely, state and local governments have utterly nuked the largest sources of per-pupil funding for public education (income and sales tax revenues at the state level, property values at the local level); and (2) they’ve given virtually every household in America a taste of what it feels like to have a home-centered and family-centered life, and more than a few are going to *love* it and want to keep doing it. I can’t tell you how many people I have spoken with who are scared about the economy, but consider spending all day with their kids around a significant silver lining. One friend told me she now understood why I talk about homeschooling so much.
Furthermore, corporations are more likely to make working from home a standard option for employees going forward because having these policies already in place makes their profitability more stable in a crisis and helps them retain talent. There had previously been conflicting impressions on the value of working from home among the MBA crowd – does it have a positive or negative impact on collaboration and management, etc. That conflict has now been spectacularly resolved in the favor of not having a physically concentrated workforce. This paradigm shift means a lot of people who previously wanted to homeschool but could not do it for economic reasons suddenly can.
So the ideological war is on, whether we like it or not. The only way public education activists can blunt the effects of this cultural shift will be (1) using political connections to change the laws and regulations to make homeschooling impossible or frustrating, (2) spreading disinformation about homeschooling on a massive scale. It’s an excellent time to support the HSLDA, state homeschooling lobbyists, and pro-school choice policymakers.
I already had a retired school teacher (unfortunately my next-door neighbor) chew me out this week about homeschooling, and the timing seemed humorous and ironic to me too. She was actually trying to make a scene scolding me for homeschooling, shouting at me loud enough for our whole neighborhood to hear about how I was screwing my child up socially and all the standard stuff. But she was in berserk mode. I live in a very proper gated community where things like that do not happen. But then I realized why she was over the edge mentally during a period where literally every kid in America is being homeschooled. Their whole system has been burned to the ground. I had to have an awkward conversation with our young daughter who wants to be kind to everyone about staying away from the lady, because I suspect the harassment coming from her has only just begun.

I have to believe that homeschooling parents and freedom-lovers will stand united when we need to. We will have to be just as loud and bold as those who are against us.

It’s important to understand this event has been on the calendar for a while. These individuals are already working diligently across the nation to implement regulating policy state by state. They’ve been doing it for years. This is just another attempt to sway opinion on parental rights and homeschool. They tend to spin truancy abuse cases to look like homeschool abuse.
I (and other state leaders) have been watching the work of CRHE (check the list of speakers) for quite a few years.
No need to be angry or afraid. What is needed is support for your statewide homeschool organization.
Partner with your state organization! Each works to protect homeschool freedoms right in your state. We also communicate with state leaders across the nation to stay on top of what’s happening in other state legislatures. Our legislative team is on site at the AZ Capitol weekly during the session.
Oh, and get out and vote in November!!!
