About

Hi, I’m Shelly, a Christ-following mom to eleven great kids ages 2-22 and wife to my husband, Shawn. Homeschooling is my passion, and in order to keep myself from talking everyone’s ear off about it, I decided to write this blog. We’ve tried almost every homeschooling method there is and have settled happily as relaxed homeschoolers.

In today’s world, education has become something that’s looked at as if it were something that can only happen in a school setting. Nothing could be further from the truth. In the U.S. alone, over 2.5 million people are now homeschooling their children, and I strongly suspect this number is extremely low because in just the state I live in, people aren’t required to register their kids with the school district until the age of 8.

I know there are so many people out there who are fed up with the school system and are intrigued by the thought of keeping their kids home but are afraid that they just couldn’t handle it or afford it.

The reason I started There’s No Place Like Home was to let people know what homeschooling is really all about- that anyone who puts their mind to it can do it and to let them know that homeschooling is nothing like school!

So forget about all of those preconceived notions of what education has to look like and go for it!

The only thing education has to look like is what your kids NEED it and WANT it to look like.

Happy homeschooling!

      1. Hello , my name is Thomas , I’m relatively new to your channel , I have to say there are many things I questioned when I was a child , because what my Dad told me about what the Bible said and what my teacher said didn’t make sense , I would like to add there are a lot of interesting old building here in Kokomo Indiana https://visitindiana.com/things-to-do/54862-seiberling-mansion-and-howard-county-museum , this is a link to a building you might like to see . God Bless

  1. Hi Shelly, I would love to contact you regarding a review, but your contact “here” takes me to creating a google account but does not give me your e-mail! I am loving your website and have followed you on twitter!

  2. Shelly, I mentally respond to you all of the time through your blog and your YouTube videos. 🙂 But this time, I’ll actually write ya. 🙂 I’ve followed you for at least a year. Just so you know, I think of you as my “Big Sister”. I love listening from you and reading your articles! You have helped me so much! You and I think so much alike, although your thoughts are so much expanded and beyond mine b/c of your much more parenting experience and research, I love how blunt (or so direct) you are (just how I think). The only thing that you’ve mislead me is your blog’s head title, “There’s No Place like Home.” 🙂 haha! Your title (Like the Wizard of Oz movie) makes me think you should be a Kansas resident, like me, which before I discovered you live in Pennsylvania, I was hoping you were a Kansan, and I could meet you down the yellow brick road sometime. 🙂 Anyways, I appreciate all you do! ~Leslie~ (A mom of a 4 yr old, 18 mo. old, & one baby due in a month—who homeschools her oldest preschool, and plans to start homeschooling Kindergarten next year!)

    1. Haha! Sorry I misled you with my title. Just so you know, I was heavily influenced by The Wizard of Oz (I literally had it memorized as a child), so I’m sure that had a hand in my choosing “There’s No Place Like Home.” I am so happy to hear that my blog and videos have touched you. I absolutely love to hear from likeminded people. 😉 Have a great day!

  3. I couldn’t find a “contact me” place so, sorry to contact you here. I follow your YouTube and Instagram. On a recent YouTube video you mentioned showing your preschool curriculum. My little girl will be in “preschool” next year and I’d like to give her something a little more structured but still fun so I’m curious to see what you picked. I give her a lot of cutting pages and tracing pages right now. She is certain she is doing school but I’m really just trying to keep her busy. So, please share if you don’t mind! I’m looking for ideas but we don’t like a lot of real “desk-work’ if we can help it!

  4. Hi, Shelly. I have just watched your video regarding your daughter. I have a suggestion that maybe can help you. All inflammation comes from mucus in the body. I think the first thing you can do is try herbal remedies such as cilantro tea, astragalus root tea etc. Do research on different herbs. The only thing with herbs is that if taken with medication it won’t have any effect. I think she needs to to on a serious detox to cleanse her gut and her liver because this is where disease begin. The meats are no good either due to the things inside of the meat. Unclean foods such as pork and seafood (shrimp, shellfish etc) are not to be eaten. God put these herbs in the earth for our healing. Research, research research and I do believe your daughter will be healed in Yahushua (Jesus) name. Seek the Father in His word and obey him and he will do wondrous things in your life. If you have any questions feel free to ask. 🙂 ….. manuka honey, milk thistle tea,,astragalus root, cilantro tea, woodwork tea(for parasites).

  5. Greetings!!! I’ve been following your YouTube channel for a while now, and constantly want to leave a comment, but due to to the lack of that option (darn you YouTube!!), I’ve been searching for somewhere to write to you! Since I have no social media, I thank God I found this page!

I just want to send a word of appreciation your way! I love what you have to say, and I am proud of you for standing up and exposing the things that not everyone is aware of in our “system”. I haven’t really found anyone who agrees with my point of view so fully as you do, and I is just so awesome to see!! I homeschool only 4 kids, and your videos are fantastic! From the tips to the rants and all the in between topics, you are doing a fantastic job! I think we all need a pat on the back and to know that what we do matters, so I am here to say that you matter and i appreciate you. Keep letting your light shine girl! Blessings sent from your friend out here in Canada!

  6. Hi Shelly!! I just discovered you today! I am planning on homeschooling my 7th grade son. Which curriculum do you recommend? We are Christian as well.
Thank you for all you do.

    1. Hi Gayle! You’re making a great decision in homeschooling your son. For that age, I really enjoy using Konos, which is a unit study curriculum. Beautiful Feet Books is excellent for history, and we use ctcmath.com. I know a lot of people enjoy Abeka if you prefer textbooks. 🙂
